From eCall to NGeCall: building a smarter road emergency system for 112 Lithuania

The introduction of eCall at the European level marked a decisive step forward in emergency management. Since 2018, with the obligation to equip all new vehicles with 112-based eCall systems and to adapt Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) to handle them, the European Union has initiated a profound transformation for both the automotive industry and emergency services.

Within this regulatory and technological framework, the Lithuanian Emergency Response Centre 112 embarked on a structured path to implement and further develop the eCall service, with the aim of ensuring citizens an increasingly fast, integrated, and effective response system. Following an initial implementation in 2015 and a subsequent evolution in 2025 towards Next Generation eCall, Beta 80 designed and delivered a state-of-the-art infrastructure, positioning Lithuania among the most advanced European countries in Emergency Management.
